And suddenly I realized I didn't have much cash...

...and there is only one ATM in the capital - 100's of miles away...

...damn, how much can change on the other side of a river.

Sunset over the northern Thai mountains.

A menu with rather odd sayings. Why not?

Tickets in Laos: destination stapled to money.

The slow boat looked damn slow...

...and would be our cozy home for the next 2 days.

"We'll just wait it out until the wet season..."

Mountainside homes on the Mekong river.

Little kids would jump on the boat to sell expensive junk food.

Water buffalo looked at us, unimpressed as usual.

Mountain side village.

Another classic 'through-my-glasses-lens" shot...

The little kids on the shore seemed intimidating.

Pak Beng: a totally shitty experience awaits you!

As the boats approach the little kids run to board it...

...then they grab your bags so you have to pay them...

...sheer chaos. Then you run to the limited guest houses...

...I think I got the last room in town. A roof shed.

...with ensuite bathroom...

...but a chill rooftop to relax on :)

Locals doin' their thing.

Another day, another boat - much less packed though.

This guy needs a National Geographic cover.

The other boat was packed and very jealous of us.

Arrival in Luang Prabang - just in time for sunset.

The night market with many useless things.

$100 = 1,000,000 Kip! Millionaire! Hooray!

Who can't live without a buddha-in-a-bottle! Not Keith!

Muong Swa included emotional covers of western music.

The influence of french-colonial was quite charming.

The lush plots on the river side...

...all will be submerged in the wet season.

Laos-style BBQ - EXCELLENT!

Skinny boat to the buddha caves...

Crazy roots.

The walkway to "Whisky Village"...

...where ladies made textiles...

...monks did their thing!

The buddha caves...

...1000's of buddhas placed here over the years.

...just inside the cave walls...

...some have been here for many decades.

Some caves went deeper and you needed a flashlight...
